A classic, minus the clutter
The puzzle you remember — with room to breathe
Lines 98, Color Lines, whatever you called it on your first PC — the rules have not changed. Tap a ball, tap an empty cell, and it rolls there if the path is clear. Five or more balls of the same colour in a row disappear. Every move without a line adds new balls, so the board becomes a little more crowded each turn.
That simple loop is why the original still works. Modern Lines keeps it, then removes the rough edges: a clean 9×9 board, smooth motion, readable colours and a proper undo. It is the same puzzle, with room to breathe.
Four ways to play
Pick the pace that fits your day
Same rules, different pressure. Start with Classic, then try Blitz when you have three minutes and Hardcore when you want to be humbled.
Take your time
The original rhythm. Three new balls after every move that does not clear a line. Preview the next balls, undo one move and play without a clock.
Three minutes
Every line you clear adds five seconds. The board fills faster, the score climbs faster, and a good run feels like a sprint.
No pressure
Two new balls per move, unlimited undo, no timer. For a slow coffee, a train ride or the end of the day.
One chance
Four new balls per move, no preview, no undo. Every move matters. This is the mode for players who know the board by heart.

Tip: on a phone you can swipe the row sideways. Every card is from the current store set.
The details
Small things that keep you playing
Nothing that gets in the way of the puzzle. Just the conveniences a phone game should have.
See what is coming
Next-ball preview helps you plan two moves ahead — except in Hardcore, where you fly blind.
Undo the obvious mistake
One-step undo in Classic, unlimited undo in Zen. Blitz and Hardcore keep you honest.

Who it is for
Built for the way you actually play
Lines 98 veterans
You know the loop and want a phone version that respects it: the same rules, a clean board and no clutter.
Commute & coffee-break players
Blitz is a complete three-minute run. Classic and Zen save automatically, so a session can be as short as one move.
Players who come to unwind
Zen has no timer and unlimited undo; Sakura, Pastel and Mist are easy on the eyes after a long day.
Score chasers
Per-mode records, longer lines worth more points and a Hardcore mode that ends the moment you slip.
Not for you if you want a story campaign, real-time action or a game that plays itself. Modern Lines is a quiet, turn-based puzzle — and proudly so.
How to play
Four rules. That is the whole game.

Good to know
Questions, answered
Is Modern Lines really free?
Yes. The game is free with a banner and ads between games. A single one-time purchase removes ads; there is no subscription, no energy system and no paywall on the puzzle itself.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Modern Lines needs no connection, no account and no sign-up. Your progress is stored on your device.
Which Android versions are supported?
Android 7.0 (API 24) and newer, on phones and tablets. The game runs in portrait and is designed for one-handed play.
Is there a timer?
Classic and Zen have no timer. Blitz starts at three minutes and adds five seconds for every line. Hardcore has no timer, but also no preview and no undo.
How do I unlock themes?

It is saved on your device and included in the system backup where available. There is no cloud sync or cross-device transfer.
Which languages are included?
English, Russian, German, French and Spanish. You can switch languages in Settings at any time.
Ready when you are
The board is waiting.
