Have you ever wanted to add something new in Diablo 2 Resurrected, to make the game feel fresh again? In this post, I will share my personal top 11 mods for this remaster. But before we begin, you can also check out my guide on How to install mods for Diablo 2 Resurrected.
Every single mod listed in this article has been tested with the latest patch 2.7 (Nov 2023). If you are facing difficulties or encountering bugs, please check the Troubleshooting section.
Although Diablo 2 Resurrected features upgraded visuals, sound design, and some minor quality-of-life changes (such as increased stash space or UI) it might not be enough to satisfy hardcore gamers.

Dozens of incredible mods exist for the original Diablo 2 that still manage to hold this 20-year-old game in quite a good shape (look for example at Eastern Sun or glorious Median XL). In a matter of time, similar mods may release for the remastered version, but at least at this moment such mods do not exist, and direct porting is not possible because of the different lines of code for the engine. So the list mostly features Quality-of-life Mods that will make your gameplay smoother and more satisfying for modern standards.
Here is my top 11 list of mods for this remaster right now. You can either check my showcase videos below, or continue reading this post.

Best mods for D2R
Enemy Multiplier
This small mod is pretty much self-explanatory. It adds extra monsters around the world to make it less safe to go around. This will also allow you to loot more gold, some extra items, and farm more experience if you are well-prepared for these fights. So always stay on alert or prepare to die.

Ultimate Loot Filter
The next modification is Ultimate Loot filter or compilation of multiple mods made by Givemhell. This mod adds custom icons for potions and runes. Now it is also possible to easily distinguish items on the ground by the reworked color filter for each type of item.
This compilation also increases cube slots, allowing players to stack runes and gems, however, for some reason, these two features do not work properly so this mod feels rather unfinished and outdated.

Extended Resurrection
Extended Resurrection mod brings a third ability for mercenaries as well as adding slots to equip extra gear (gloves, boots, rings, amulet, and belt), Although this doesn’t look so UI friendly, it works as intended.

The mod also increases cube size, adding new recipes for gems. Allows to stack runes, gems, and keys. Some other changes include item levels next to the name, 2 unique items, 2 jewels for weapon effects, and one new zone – River of Corrupted. However, most of these features may not work properly because of the incompatible game client and this requires further updates by the author of this mod.

The mod is still in the Work in Progress Stage and many features are to come later (according to the author of this modification).
Vanilla Plus
Vanilla Plus mod, created by Zander improves the original game by increasing drop rates, rebalancing underpowered skills, adding new cube recipes, and two new charms. You can also purchase a Token of Absolution from NPC to respec your points.
Some additional changes include the glowing effect for jewels and high-quality gems, changes to item affixes, and splash damage implementation for melee classes.

This mod also adds non-customizable miniature icons for gems, runes, potions, and gold. Sadly, there is not much else to see here, but there is still enough room for improvement.
BetterSP
BetterSP is probably the best all-in-one mod among the players that covers most of the long-requested features and 90% of the time works as intended (without breaking anything). This mod, just like Vanilla Plus basically aims for a comfortable vanilla experience, without adding extra items and just adjusting drop rates, increasing movement speed, mana, and stamina regen.
It also adds extra stash tabs to use as well as cube slots plus extra recipes for crafting runes, gems and respec tokens. Here you will also find a color filter with item levels in brackets to distinguish loot on the ground.

Apart from that, BetterSP reduces the Death penalty for high-level characters, removes 20-level skill limitations, disables summons limitations, and allows casting spells in town. The complete list of the changes can be found on the nexusmods or ModDB pages.
Basically, this mod brings plenty of quality-of-life changes without breaking much balance of the original game. The only downside of all these mods is that they cannot be played online with your friends and are only playable in offline mode.
Sundering Charms

In case you are unfamiliar with Sunder Charms, Blizzard implemented these special grand charms with the patch 2.5. Their bonus allows to break enemy resistances such as Cold, Fire, Poison, Lightning, or Magic. It also debuffs player’s resistance of the same type. Sunder charms are quite rare and can be only found in the terror zones. This works in both modes: Offline and Online. But thanks to this small mod, Sunder charms will also drop from particular bosses or zones that are above level 69 on Hell. These charms will definitely help you deal with elites and their elemental immunes. And if you are still not satisfied with the drop rates, you can easily tune it in the Mod manager and then install mods to apply new changes.
Custom Colors

It’s pretty self-explanatory. Custom Colors allows players to personalize the colors of each item type, such as runes, uniques, consumables, set items, and more. And thanks to the mod manager, you can easily customize it and choose any color for better visibility.
Increase Gambling Chance

Gambling Chance mod will raise a chance to find a decent, high-quality loot from the Gambler. Gambling is an important mechanic where players can spend excess gold with a chance to obtain rare or even unique items like Stone of Jordan or maybe Griffon’s Eye. Usually, it requires a lot of time, luck and gold to find at least something useful, but this mod will improve your chances significantly. With all of the adjustable settings, you can make any gambler a desired merchant to visit. Depending what you need, you can tune the drop chance for rare, set or unique items. Moreover, this mod can force gambler to give you only the specific quality of items based on the difficulty level. You can also gamble class-specific items like wands, scepters if you turn on the corresponding option inside the manager.
Easy Rune Upgrade

Next mod is Easy Rune Upgrade. This will simplify the process of upgrading runes with the Horadric cube. By default, you need 3 identical runes to craft one of a higher tier, and some even require specific gems. But thanks to the mod, you can change that in the settings and disable gems requirement completely. It’s a must-have for everyone, who is into endgame content and theory crafting, allowing you to focus more on other aspects of gameplay, rather than farming.
D2R Chaos Mod

Next is D2R Chaos Mod. This is a custom-made modpack, that aims to provide a new and challenging experience. It welcomes us with a new character selection screen. The camera options and difficulty selectors are impressive, but the character rotation is a bit clunky.
Chaos mod introduces several significant changes to the game’s mechanics and progression system. First, the maximum level here is raised to 125, and skills are capped at level 30. Each new level grants you 2 skill points and 8 stat points for more flexibility. And second, all classes and in-game items have been rebalanced, buffed or updated in some ways.
D2R Reimagined

The final mod in my list is D2R Reimagined. Reimagined is an ambitious overhaul mod. What started as a combination of minor QoL mods, turned into a completely new experience.
If you’ve ever heard of Better SP or Vanilla Plus, then this mod is definitely worth of your attention. Especially if you are a die-hard Diablo fan who has explored the entire original game inside and out.
Reimagined enhances the gameplay and improves several aspects of Diablo 2. While it doesn’t add any new content like monsters or zones, it brings plenty of quality-of-life changes. One of the most notable improvements in this mod is the inventory, expanded stash space and Horadric cube itself. Thanks to this change, players will now be able to pick as many items as they want without the need to return to town. The cube has also got plenty of new recipes which can make your life easier. Gems and keys are now stored in a separate bag which is cool, so they won’t take up space in your main inventory.
User interface has also got several cosmetic changes and updates. Loot tooltips have been improved. Skill trees now have more distinguishable icons and many in-game windows have been redesigned to look more minimalistic.
As for the gameplay aspects, a lot of stuff has been rebalanced. Necromancer’s minions for example now run faster, melee classes have more toughness, skills are capped at level 25 and have more synergy, also improved zones density, tweaked uniques and drop tables, changes to charms and weight system, item augmentation, new runewords, difficulty level rebalance, mercenaries have more item slots, etc. etc. The list is really huge and it will take hours to discuss everything. Reimagined even has its own Wiki page to cover all the changes. What’s more important is that this mod continues to receive regular updates, addressing bugs, and adding new features based on community feedback.
It’s a must-have for sure. Whether you’re a long-time fan of Diablo II or someone experiencing it for the first time, Reimagined gives a fresh perspective on this timeless classic.
